BuildaBridge seeks volunteer artists, social workers, scientists, environmentalists, medical personnel, and educators to serve communities in the “Global Youth Collaboration for Sustainable Environmental Education” project. The project will connect youth and educators for sustainable environmental education and cross-cultural exchange from

 July 24 – August 4, 2014 in the following locations:

Students in these locations will interact in an internet-based community sharing scientific discoveries and observations related to water issues in their local environment while 

attending an Artology camp and learning about art, biology and environmental science.

Artology 2014 is on the Horizon!

As we slosh through the dreary winter weather this February we are daydreaming of summer and getting excited for Artology 2014! Registration is now officially open, and if you register by April 1 we will waive the registration fee!

Session Two

Session two of Artology brought wonderful experiences! Not only did we have our new 4th & 5th grade students, but we were also joined by many 6th-8th grade Artologists from the first session who returned to enjoy more arts, science, and field trips, plus culinary and language arts lessons.

Weeks Three & Four: Forest Ecology & Interconnection

Check out a few of the amazing things our Artologists did in the last two weeks of our first session!

We explored tree canopies at Morris Arboretum, got our hands dirty learning about urban farming in a Greenhouse at the SHAREfood program, and fearlessly tried new foods at Reading Terminal Market. We scavenged for answers at the Wagner Free Institute, and investigated clues at the La Salle University Art Museum. Back at Artology headquarters we made compositions with owl-pellet bones, played water cycle games, and wrote skits about our new ecological knowledge.

Week Two: Urban Ecology

We started off week two with a bang! Monday morning we visited Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ. Then in the afternoon the crew of the AJ Meerwald, a schooner that was once used for catching oysters, took us sailing near the Statue of Liberty and New York Skyline.

It took some teamwork to raise our ship’s sail!

Students made a skyline of their own, and learned how to build a worm compost.



We went to the Rodin Museum, the Barnes Foundation, and Friday we took our Artologists to cool off at a local pool. Quite a busy week!

Ecology @ Artology Begins!

Artology 2013 began on June 24th – time is flying! Vivian Williams, our guest educator from the Philadelphia Water Department, came on the first week to teach us about green jobs, water runoff, and our local tree species.

We went on trips to Wissahickon Creek and back on site we explored water usage through paper-making with Art Teachers Liz Latham and Gaby Aruta and Science Teacher Patsy Babcock.

We learned that sometimes the key to succeeding is to ask for help…



and that other times you just have to give it your all.

Field Trip Features: Philadelphia Museum of Art and Franklin Institute

Last Friday, July 6, Artology travled to the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA).

Once inside the PMA, the Artologists went on an art scavenger hunt throughout the Modern Art (about 18th century to 21st century) galleries.  Ms. L distributed clues that corresponded with works within the galleries.  Using all of their groups’ intellectual and physical might, the Artologists scurried around the museum on a mission to be the first group to find all eight pieces.  Once the scavenger hunt and subsequent picnic lunch were complete, the Artologists had the opportunity to explore areas of the Museum that they were interested in.

On Monday, July 9, Artology traveled to the Franklin Institute to learn more about the theme for this week– Space!

We traveled to the Space Command section of the Institute, saw a movie in the Planetarium about our solar system’s weather, and then were able to explore other parts of the Institute such as the Giant Heart and the steam-engine-powered train.
